Day 1 - Arthur Avenue, The Bronx
This morning we depart for Arthur Avenue in Little Italy! Arthur Avenue is a hidden gem, located in the Belmont section of the Bronx, and has a rich history dating back to 1792 when Pierre Lorillard moved to New York and opened the first tobacco company, “P. Lorillard & Co”. Arthur Avenue is famous for its Italian-American atmosphere, shopping, and authentic Italian-American food. Before lunch, we will be joined for a guided tour of Arthur Avenue and Little Italy. Enjoy the rich history of the area and learn about how Arthur Avenue got its name.
For lunch today, we will get to enjoy a wonderful Italian-American meal at Ann & Tony’s Restaurant. The restaurant has been open since 1927, serving old family recipes and delicious Italian-American food that has stayed in their family for 5 generations. Chef Anthony spent many of his childhood days cooking with his grandmother, Ann. Today, the dishes he makes, with his grandmother at his side, are recreated for the customers of Ann & Tony’s. Menu choice of: Chicken Marsala, Veal Parmigiana, or Eggplant Parmigiana. All are served with Salad, Dessert, Coffee, Tea, or Decaf.
After lunch, spend some time exploring the Retail Market filled with bakeries, butcher shops, delis, cafes, and produce vendors. If you plan to do some shopping and want to bring home some items that need to be refrigerated, don’t forget to bring a small insulated tote or a small cooler to store your goods until we return home.
