Experience the Aerodrome like no other on this Day Trip, featuring: a historic airshow and dinner at the riverside Rhinecliff!
Itinerary
Day 1 - Rhinecliff, NY
Your experience at the Aerodrome will be like no other. Start the exciting day with a guided tour of the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. The Aerodrome, which is in a classic small town airport setting, is home to over 60 vintage aircraft (which span nearly 4 decades of aviation history), many antique automobiles and motorcycles, and related memorabilia. During the tour, you’ll hear stories and aviation history of: the Pioneer Era (1900-1913), World War 1 (1914-1918), and the Golden Age (1919-1940).
After the tour, you will witness some of these amazing planes in flight during the Airshow. Some of the stars are the historic airplanes including: the 1909 Bleriot which is the oldest regularly flying airplane in the Western Hemisphere, the Fokker DR-I Triplane which is the most famous fighter of WWI, and a precise replica of the Spirit of St. Louis which was the first aircraft to fly NY to Paris in 1927. These may not be the exact ones that will be flown for today’s Airshow as the planes are rotated.
As the Airshow will be outside and in a field that may consist of uneven ground, please bring clothes and shoes that are comfortable for this type of activity. The snack shack will be open, but is cash only. There is also a gift shop on the premises. Also, don’t forget to bring your camera to capture the intriguing planes.
Dinner tonight will be at Liberty Public House. Today’s buffet dinner will consist of: Mama’s Meatloaf, Truffle Mac and Cheese, Mashed Potatoes, Salad, Vegetables, Bread and Butter, Dessert, Coffee and Tea.
