Day 1 - Home - Essex, MA
The day’s destination is Essex, MA. Essex is a small town that has built more schooners than any other place in the world. Though the community at whole is no longer considered a ship building one, you will see the evidence of the days past.
Lunch will be served at Village Restaurant. It is recognized as one of the nation’s finest seafood restaurants that serves traditional New England cuisine. Entrée choice of: Baked Haddock, or Grilled Steak Tips, or Roasted Chicken Breast. Each entrée will come with: Fresh Rolls, Clam Chowder, Soda, Coffee, Tea and Dessert.
Enjoy a tour of the Essex Shipbuilding Museum which serves as a living testament to the days when Essex produced ships for Gloucester and other Atlantic fishing communities. At the Essex Shipbuilding Museum, you can experience New England work ethics, attitudes and values that have much to teach us today.
Spend the afternoon with the Essex River Cruise which is fully narrated, scenic, informative, and historical. Cruise down the Essex River as you navigate sheltered waters. The boat will cruise by protected estuaries, sand dunes, islands, and barrier beaches. You will see stunning scenery, and may catch a glimpse of rare birds and wildlife. Watch lobstering, fishing, clamming, and other river activities. Your captain will point out historic mansions, shipyards, salt marsh farms, and sites of historical interest along the winding river.
