Enjoy a relaxing day exploring Lyman Homestead, featuring: an exclusive wine tasting at Bishop’s Orchards Winery!
Itinerary
Day 1 - Connecticut
Experience Connecticut like never before!
Journey to Lyman Orchards to pick your own fruit, for some free-time in the Apple Barrel, and a guided tour of the Lyman homestead. In their wildest dreams, colonial farmer John Lyman and his wife, Hope, could not have envisioned the complex and diverse enterprise that would evolve from their purchase in 1741 of a 37-acre parcel of land in what is now Middlefield. Now covering more than 1,100 acres of scenic farmland, Lyman Orchards is one of the most popular family attractions in New England. Throughout a history spanning ten generations, the Lyman family heritage was founded upon a commitment to preserve their land for future generations.
For lunch, head to Tap and Vine where it’s all about flavor. The restaurant’s movement in the craft beer world allowed for the Tap portion of the name. The Vine part comes from their experience in wine tasting. Though beer and wine are not included (cash bar if you want a drink), you’re sure to enjoy the flavors of the food. Your menu will consist of a choice of: Oven Roasted Short Rib (Over Smoked Gouda, Cheddar Grits, and Corn), or Shrimp, Bacon, Tomato, and Pesto Flatbread, or Stuffed Portobello (Roasted with a Savory Vegetable Stuffing, Drizzled with a Roasted Red Pepper Coulis and Roasted Garlic Saffron Oil, Served with Sauteed Spinach and Red Quinoa). All entrees will include: House Salad with Key Lime Poppy Seed Vinaigrette and Dessert.
Also today, enjoy a tasting at the winery located at Bishop’s Orchards. This afternoon, spend some time perusing the farm market at Bishop’s. The farm was started in 1871 by Walter Goodrich Bishop, and the winery in 2005. The winery uses fruits grown on the farm to produce over 15 apple, peach, pear, strawberry, blueberry, and raspberry wines, as well as specialty combination blends. At Bishop’s Orchards, they bake, prepare and stock fresh food on a daily basis, all year long. They tailor their preparations based on seasonal, and of course, home grown produce. Providing the shoreline with local and artisanal products to support our community has always been a fundamental part of who they are as an esteemed Farm Market.
