Itinerary
Day 1 - Bethel, NY
The Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is a not-for-profit performing arts center and museum located at the site of the 1969 Woodstock festival in Bethel, New York, which took place on a lot of the original Max Yasgur’s Dairy Farm.
We will be having a docent led tour of the museum. The Museum at Bethel Woods is an integral part of Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, which inspires people to lead creative and engaged lives through its many concerts, events, festivals, programs, and exhibitions—all on the site of the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair. The Museum, which opened to the public in June 2008, is housed in a beautiful LEED-certified green building, set back from the top of the Woodstock festival hillside.
The Museum’s main exhibit is an immersive, captivating multi-media experience that combines film, music, interactive displays, artifacts, and personal narratives to tell the story of The Sixties and the Woodstock festival. The main exhibit explores the unique experience of the Woodstock festival and its significance as a culminating event of a decade of sweeping cultural transformation. It highlights the social, political, cultural, and musical transformations of the period and helps us understand that many of the ideals and lessons of that era are still relevant in today’s world.
After the museum, we will head over to the Dancing Cat Saloon for lunch. Lunch today will be served buffet style. Our buffet includes: Fresh Salmon drizzled with lemon and extra virgin olive oil topped with spring onions and capers, Grilled Sausages and Roasted Peppers, Large Shrimp sautéed with extra virgin olive oil, garlic, parsley and fresh tomatoes, Ravioli stuffed with spinach and ricotta cheese and served in a tomato cream sauce, Prosciutto and Melon Platters and house desserts. Lunch also includes bread, coffee, tea and soda.
After lunch, enjoy a tasting and tour of the Catskill Distilling Company which is the sister company of the Dancing Cat Saloon. The Woodstock legacy of the area is reflected in the names of their spirits, from Peace Vodka to Most Righteous Bourbon.
Last stop of the day is, the Stray Cat Gallery. The Stray Cat Gallery is part of the onsite center of the Dancing Cat Saloon and the Catskill Distillery It showcases the talents of local artists, with exhibits both inside and out. The restored building is a little piece of local history. Here ,you will also see photographs and paintings about Woodstock.
