Enjoy Christmas in Newport on this Day Bus Trip from CT including a visit to The Breakers and Marble House.
Itinerary
Day 1 - Newport, RI
This morning we journey to Newport, RI to spend Christmas with the Vanderbilts. A self guided tour of the Marble House, which was built between 1888 and 1892, for William Vanderbilt and his wife as their summer residence. See all of the newly imagined holiday décor. Dozens of volunteers will spend a month working on the decorations, putting up trees and hanging ornaments, garlands and wreaths. The decorations in each house, and in individual rooms, are tailored to match the historic décor.
Enjoy lunch at the Mooring. For over 35 years, the Mooring has been serving locals and tourists alike at their historic waterfront location in Newport. Your lunch starts off with a Salad. Then, you have a choice of: Grilled Chicken (served with Wild Mushroom Gravy) or Local White Fish (served with Fresh Citrus). All served with Potato, Vegetable, Warm Bread, Butter, Dessert, Coffee, Tea, and Soda. (Please advise selection with reservation)
After lunch, we will travel over to The Breakers with newly imagined holiday décor. The mansion, which is the grandest of the Newport summer ‘cottages,’ is also a symbol of the Vanderbilt family’s social and financial preeminence in the turn of the century here in America. Your visit will offer an updated interpretation of its place in American architectural, social, and cultural history.
