A Journey Through History

This morning we depart on a journey back in time to Historic Philadelphia. Upon arrival there is time for lunch, on own, before we meet our local guide for a tour of Historic Philadelphia. After our tour we will check into the Wyndham Philadelphia Historic District. Tonight dinner is at City Tavern, where we will be joined by a few local townspeople from 1776, after we will proceed over to Independence Hall for an exclusive nighttime tour! Here we will be able to hear Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams discussing the Declaration of Independence.

Following breakfast at the hotel, we will visit the National Constitution Center, where we will see the production of Freedom Rising. This afternoon there will be time on your own to visit some of the famous historic sites before departing for Gettysburg, PA. Our first stop will be at the Gettysburg Visitor’s Center and Museum, there is time to visit the museum and view The Battle of Gettysburg Cyclorama Painting. This painting is over 100 years old, taller than a 2-story building, and longer than a football field. Our accommodations for the next two evenings is at the Gettysburg Hotel, founded in 1797. Dinner this evening is included at the Dobbin House Tavern.

After a plated hot breakfast at the hotel, we depart for the Gettysburg Battlefield, a Battlefield guide will board the coach and take us on a riding tour. This afternoon there is free time to explore on our own. It’s a short drive to dinner located at General Pickett’s. Following the meal, we will meet a local guide, who will take us on a candlelight ghost tour of Baltimore Street, before we return to the hotel.

Breakfast is once again served before we head to the 1860 Shriver House. Here we will learn the civilian side of the Battle of Gettysburg from the Shriver family, whose lives were changed forever as a result of the events that occurred on the rolling hills of Gettysburg in 1863. From here we bid farewell to our past as we head home to the present.
