Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrive Baltimore, MD
Arrive in Baltimore today and transfer for Harpers Ferry, WV. A quaint, historic town located at the convergence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers, also best know for John Brown’s raid against a federal armory in an attempt to abolish slavery. We check into our hotel this evening before having dinner in town. (D)
Day 2 - Romney
After breakfast this morning, it’s ‘All Aboard!’ Our day starts with a 3-hour tour (lunch included) on the Potomac Eagle Railroad. Our route goes southbound through the Trough to Sycamore Bridge and back. It is approximately 35 miles round-trip through very picturesque country side – look out for those Eagles! We continue to Elkins, WV and check into our hotel for the evening. (B,L)
Day 3 - Hot Springs, VA
Breakfast, is included this morning before we make our way to the Green Bank Science Center and Observatory, here we experience the largest steering dish in the world! Next on our journey is the Cass Scenic Railroad, where you can sit and watch the beautiful West Virginia scenery go by, as the trains steam engine chugs along the lower parts of Cheat Mountain on this eight mile trip. Later this afternoon, we check into our hotel, the 4-star Omni Homestead, located in Hot Springs, VA before dinner. (B,D)
Day 4 - Beckley
Our day starts with breakfast, before heading off to visit to the Bunker at the Greenbriar Inn, America’s best kept and most interesting secret. The bunker was built to house Government officials in case of a nuclear strike. We have lunch at this historic property before continuing to Beckley Coal Mine. Here, we tour a mine using authentic mining cars as we learn about this integral West Virginia industry. Our overnight this evening is located in Roanoke, WV at the beautiful 4-star lakeside Stonewall Resort. Dinner is included at the hotel. (B,L,D)
Day 5 - Philippi
This morning, after breakfast, we depart for Philippi, WV to the historic Adaland Mansion. Built in 1870, the 23-room, Greek Revival mansion house, has been restored with great attention to authenticity and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Lunch will be served before we depart for our next stop, Gettysburg, PA. We stop for dinner at the historic Dobbin House Restaurant before checking into our hotel, the Courtyard Gettysburg. (B,L,D)
Day 6 - Depart Gettysburg
From breakfast we head over the Gettysburg Visitor Center where you will see a film, the museum and cyclorama before meeting our Military Park Guide, who will take us on a tour of the Gettysburg Battlefield. Afterwards, we transfer to the Baltimore airport where our tour ends. (B)
